Midweek League presents cheques

An impressive £5950 was presented to charities in the North West region from the Derry Midweek Cricket League earlier this week.

The Londonderry/Derry District Charities along with Midweek President David Caldwell; Chairman Sam McPherson; Treasurer Robert Thompson and Retiring Patron Lexie Miller.

No fewer than 23 deserving charities were presented with the cheques by the DML, which started its philanthropic work way back 87 years ago in 1927.

First stop for the DML was the Strabane region, where the following charities were presented with their cheques: Dennett Interchange; Donemana MotorNeurone Association; Talkback Talking Newspaper - Strabane; Leckpatrick and Dunnalong Luncheon Club and Multiple Sclerosis Association – Strabane.

Next was the Londonderry District Charities where the beneficiaries were as follows: Foyleview Special Care Association; N.I. Childrens Hospice; Alzhemiers Disease Society; N.I. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children; Caw/Nelson Drive Action Group; Multiple Sclerosis Association – L’Derry; Talkback Talking Newspaper – L’Derry; Parkinson’s Disease Society- L’Derry; Heartbeat – Children L’Derry; Northwest Association of Hearing; Concern; The Samaritans – L’Derry; McMillan Cancer Support; Friends of Spruce House; Citizens Advice Bureau; Age NI; Cancer Research UK and SACA.

“The Derry Midweek League is delighted to have been able to present 23 charities throughout Derry and Tyrone with cheques,” said a Derry Midweek League spokesperson.

“It’s been a particularly poignant year for the DML following the death of Sam McConnell, but I’m certain he would have been proud of our efforts in distributing £5950.

“We’re also sad to see Lexie Millar stepping down after 50 wonderful years of service, and would like to publicily thank him for all of his efforts.

“Hopefully 2015 will be another wonderful season for youth and women’s cricket and we at the DML will continue to work tirelessly to promote our wonderful sport.”
