There has been Unionist condemnation of the pipe bomb attack at Lincoln Courts on Saturday night.
DUP MLA, Gary Middleton said the attack on the home of Rachael Keys was unacceptable.
“This has been a very traumatic event for Rachael, however, comfort was taken from the local community as they rallied round her and came to her aid,” he said.
“The DUP is aware of another incident involving knives over the weekend and we will be working with the PSNI and community leaders to ensure these incidents are fully investigated.
“Many were angered by the incident being labelled sectarian. It is quite clear that not all of Lincoln Courts is of the one religion and accusations like this do not help. We must all work together to try and prevent these situations. The DUP will continue to work with local communities, restorative practice group and the authorities to try and prevent violence.”
Meanwhile, UUP Foyle representative Julia Kee, said those responsible had no regard for the safety or welfare of local residents or anyone who could have been passing by.
She said as a result of the incident five homes had to be evacuated.
“I understand that the Police are following a number of lines of Inquiry but that they are treating this as a possible hate crime,” she said.
“This is quite simply a crime against the entire community and I condemn it unreservedly. I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Lincoln Court area around 10.10pm on Saturday, or who can assist the police in tackling any form of criminal or paramilitary activity, to come forward and pass that information on immediately.”
