Joan Kernan, of De Moleyn Park, appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court on Friday, following the incident on November 16. When challenged following the attempted theft, she told police, “If I was in possession of something I didn’t pay for it was a mistake and I’m terribly sorry”, the court heard. District Judge Barney McElholm fined her £150 and imposed a four month jail term, suspended for two years.
