Students lobby in Belfast

Students from Foyle College, Duncreggan, St Cecilia’s College, Bligh’s Lane and St Mary’s College, Northland Road, will be among 200 young people gathering in Belfast City Hall on Wednesday, March 26, to speak out on social issues concerning them in their community and wider society.

Tackling obesity, mental health awareness, cancer and alcoholism are among the issues that will be highlighted at the event which is part of the Young Social Innovators annual project-based social innovation programme for 15 to 18 year olds.

This year 17 regional events are taking place offering all 6,000 young people participating in YSI the opportunity to speak out on their chosen issue to an audience of community leaders, voluntary organisations and members of the public.

The annual YSI programme gives young people the skills and know-how to examine social problems and bring about the changes they wish to see in their communities and wider society.
