Ski slope or surfing facility a possibility

A new £20m to £30m sports centre at Templemore may incorporate an indoor ski slope or surfing facility, according to the head of sports and leisure at Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Noel Munnis said both Templemore and the Riversdale centre in Strabane will have eye-catching selling points once they are redeveloped.

“Investment in Templemore opens up opportunities for a real snow, indoor ski slope or a surf basin or something like that, which would be a really good leisure centre, like this one, but with something unique to it and this is the unique feature for St Columb’s Park and the arena,” he said.

Mr Munnis made the comments as the council officially opened the equally eye-catching new sports centre and Foyle Arena in St Columb’s Park.
