SDLP Councillor Martin Reilly has welcomed the passing of a motion at the SDLP Conference 2015 in Armagh at the weekend calling for a ‘City Deal’ for Londonderry.
He said: “Mark Durkan MP has been championing the case for a City Deal for Derry which would have a positive impact for the wider North West region.
“He recently held a business seminar in the city where local people expressed unanimous support for this type of economic investment to be introduced here.
“A City Deal for Derry is a means to unlock the potential in the One Plan.
“I was glad to get the endorsement of our party conference to bring further pressure on the NI Executive to bring forward this proposal.
“Mark Durkan MP has raised this matter in Parliament and with the Secretary of State. Foyle MLAs have raised it in the NI Assembly and I have raised it in Derry & Strabane Council.
“What is missing now is action by our Executive to make the potential economic benefits for this region a reality.”
