DUP councillor David Ramsey said he was encouraged by the options open to young people when he visited the Army Reserves recruitment day in the Waterside on Saturday.
“I was encouraged by the options and opportunities for young people who would like to try an army career,” he said.
“What was being offered I considered to be a great option, as well as a secure future career for young adults in Londonderry and the rest of the UK and The Republic of Ireland.
“I saw an opportunity for young people to try an Army career with massive financial incentives and a chance for a good secure future career.
“The British Army are working hard on recruitment and give young people a future. Army reserve offer £300 to enlist; £1000 to successfully complete four weekends and a two-week course, with another £1,000 to learn a trade, train as a medic or gain driving qualifications and there is also generous payment for subsequent training. It is an excellent opportunity.”
