TransportNI has confirmed new traffic calming measures will be introduced in Kilfennan before the end of the current financial year.
SDLP Councillor Martin Reilly received confirmation work will be issued next week for a contractor to carry out the traffic control measures by next March.
Mr Reilly said it will improve road safety for families living in the area.
“I welcome the progression of this traffic calming scheme in this part of the Waterside which will help improve safety for road users and the families that live in this area,” he said.
“I know that Transport NI carried out a consultation with local residents and received no objections to these proposals.
“A contract will be issued to a contractor shortly and the work will be completed before the end of this financial year.
“This scheme was financially carried over from last year so I am glad to see it progress, as this also allows other areas awaiting funding to move up the priority list for attention,” he added.
