Foyle DUP MLA Maurice Devenney has welcomed the planned reinstatement of the Tourism Events fund.
Mr Devenney asked the Investment Minister Arlene Foster if she would reinstate the fund which previously supported events such as the Walled City Tattoo.
“It is very welcome news that the DETI Minister Foster has secured £1million to allow for the Tourism Events Fund to be reinstated. The tourism events fund has ensured that events such as the Walled City Tattoo in Londonderry have been able to take place along with many other successful events throughout Northern Ireland.
“With the events fund planned to reopen in early February, this will be a further boost to tourism in Northern Ireland. These major tourism events have shown significant increases in overnight stays, particularly in the North West were I represent. The increase in tourists will have a catalytic effect in the local economy,” he said.
