Limavady United FC are hosting Northern Ireland’s Keith Gillespie on Friday night in a fundraising event for the club.

Gillespie, who has played for Manchester United, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Sheffield United, will be in Limavady on Friday, June 26, 2015.

The Northern Ireland winger began his career at Manchester United after winning the FA Youth Cup in 1992, before moving to Newcastle United, where he played in the UEFA Champions League - memorably putting in a superb performance against mighty Barcelona to claim a 3-2 win for the Magpies.

Gillespie also played in the Premier League for Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Sheffield United, helping the former win the Football League Cup in 2002.

Towards the end of his career, he played for Glentoran in the Irish League and Longford Town in the League of Ireland.

Gillespie earned 86 caps for Northern Ireland between 1994 and 2008, putting him 6th in their most capped players of all time.

Vice-Chairman of Limavady United David Brewster said: “He’s certainly a very interesting character who I’m sure will have plenty to talk about aside from the number of goals he has scored.

“He will be speaking about his autobiography - ‘How Not to be a Football Millionaire’ - and there are some very interesting stories in it. I mean, he’s handed £7 million to the bookies.

“It’s all been well documented over the years - he’s had a very turbulent lifestyle.

“It is a fundraiser for the club so we are hoping to see as many people on Friday as possible. Tickets are still available from committee members and everyone is welcome to come along.”
