Funeral set for Co Londonderry mother-of-three killed in crash

A mother-of-three with Londonderry connections will be laid to rest on Saturday after she was killed in a collision in Co Donegal.

Maria Wallis died following the single fatal road traffic collision on the R252, Glenfin Road, Ballybofey on Wednesday afternoon.

It also claimed the life of 19-year-old Kiara Baird, who was originally from Dublin and lived in Ballybofey.

Ms Wallis has Londonderry links but it is understood she had lived in Ballybofey for approximately 13 years.

The 38-year-old was mother to three boys, David, Darren and Andrew and was married to David.

She was the daughter of Mary and David and sister to Mark and Michael.

Ms Wallis’s funeral will leave that home on Saturday at 10.15am for 11am Requiem Mass in the Church of the Mary Immaculate, Stranorlar, followed by interment in Drumboe Cemetery.

Ms Baird will be laid to rest on Sunday.

Gardai in Donegal are appealing for information on the fatal collision, in which a man in his 40s also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

It occurred at approximately 4.15 pm when the car all three were travelling in, a blue Citroen C3, left the road, collided with a pole and came to a stop in a parking area for trucks.

Ms Baird was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ms Wallis was pronounced dead in hospital.
