The state-of-the-art £12m Foyle Arena opened its doors to the public at lunchtime today, Monday.
Despite the inclement weather, bus loads of schoolchildren enjoyed sports taster sessions, including football, judo and athletics, while a mother and toddler session and scores of excited schoolchildren got their first taste of the swimming pool.
Elsewhere members of staff proudly showed groups of people around the extensive facilities, which include a fitness suite, an international standard climbing wall and a raft of sports facilities.
Among the first through the door, eager to sample the facilities was athlete and mountaineer Hannah Shields.
