SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has congratulated his ‘good neighbour’ Dean William Morton of St Columb’s Cathedral on being appointed as the new Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin.

Mr Durkan said: “I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Dean Morton on being appointed to such an esteemed position.

“Dean William is a warm pastor of great community spirit and strong civic engagement.

“As he moves to a new role of national eminence he will be missed locally, not just by the chapter and congregation of St Columb’s Cathedral, the diocese and his pastoral colleagues in other churches, but by all of us in the city who trust him as a modest leader and value him as an honest friend.

“I will also miss Rosemary and himself as good neighbours to my constituency office on Bishop Street.”
