An Eglinton man has appeared in court accused of 36 sex offences.

Douglas Frederick Ayton, of Donnybrewer Road in the village, is charged with rape, attempted buggery and attempted rape.

The 62-year-old faces further charges of indecent assault and gross indecency.

The offences were allegedly committed between January 1981 and December 1986 and involve two complainants.

He was released on his own bail of £500 to appear at the crown court for arraignment on March 18.
