A man who called a police officer a “Jewish b------” received a four-month sentence, suspended for two years and a conditional discharge, when he appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court, on charges of disorderly behaviour, assaulting and resisting police at Clooney Road on June 8, last year.

The court was told John Meehan (21), of Northland Road, pleaded guilty to the offences.

When police arrived at the scene to arrest him he became aggressive and tried to head-butt one of them and struggled.
