A 41-year-old man who admitted a senseless act of damage was conditionally discharged for three years when he appeared at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court.

Paul Laird, of Allen Park, Donemana, pleaded guilty to damaging two cars on May 8, last year.

The court heard the cars were owned by his lifelong friend and almost £1,300 worth of damage had been caused to them.

Defence solicitor Eoghan Devlin said the offence was a “senseless act carried out in drink”.

Laird was ordered to pay £250 in compensation.
