Detectives hunting the killers of Andrew Allen say as many as 12 people were involved in the murder carried out in Buncrana two years ago.

The killing in February 2012 was claimed by Republican Action Against Drugs, though relatives insisted he had never been aware of a threat from that grouping.

Detective Inspector Pat O’Donnell said today that officers were building a strong case.

The 9th February 2014 was the second anniversary of the murder of Andrew Allen at Links View Park Buncrana.

Detective Inspector O’Donnell said: “The investigation into Andrew’s murder has progressed steadily over the two years since his death. Incident room personnel and detectives working on the case have pursued in excess of 500 lines of enquiry resulting in the taking of close to 200 statements to date. Two arrests have been made and numerous searches conducted on either side of the border to date.

“The investigation team are now happy that they have identified the people involved in this crime. Gardai are building a case against those involved in planning and carrying out of this crime. with the valuable assistance of our colleagues in the Police Service Northern Ireland PSNI. While a small number actually carried out the murder others sourced cars, guns, clothing provided transport and assisted in the preparation and the escape after the crime. I am appealing to those involved to come forward now and give closure to Andrew’s family and partner. Furthermore, anyone not involved but who has knowledge of what occurred and has not already come forward are urged to contact Gardai, or the Police Service of Northern Ireland.”
