Derry City and Strabane District Council is calling on community and youth workers, volunteers, facilitators, statutory workers and individuals to avail of the opportunity to avail of free training courses this September.

The courses are being organised as part of Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week from September 26 to October 4 by the Good Relations Team from Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Among the courses on offer are courses on ‘Introduction to Mediation’; Facilitating peace building; ‘Dealing with the past’; ‘Migration Awareness’ and ‘Ending Hate’ seminars and Intercultural Arts Training.

Mayor Councillor Elisha McCallion said: “The courses are a great initiative to help participants understand local diversity not only in terms of ethnicity but also in terms of working to promote peaceful approaches to resolving differences of opinion or controversial issues in our communities. “They are really useful to anyone working or volunteering in local communities and can be useful skills for self-employment or employment in facilitation or community work. Council is delighted to be able to offer the courses free of charge under our Good Relations Strategy.”
