The first household survey for the new Derry City and Strabane District Council area will influence the planning, prioritisation and delivery of services for the development of the city and district.

Ilex’s statistician Hugh McNickle said: “This is the first household survey to be targeted specifically within the new Derry City & Strabane District council area and will influence the planning, prioritisation and delivery of services for the development of the city and district. This is an extensive piece of work and the results of the survey will directly shape the content of the new Community Plan.

“Our thanks to DSD, Ulster University and Social Capital North West for their support and involvement.”

The plan focuses on eight strategic themes: Community Development; Early Intervention; Health and Wellbeing; Education and Skills; Entrepreneurship and Enterprise; Tourism Arts and Culture; Physical Regeneration; Infrastructure and Transport.

Mayor Elisha McCallion said: “This survey gives our residents one of the first opportunities to express their views on the new Council area and how it should be shaped going forward.

“I would encourage anyone who has been approached by the survey enumerators to take part in the survey so that we can determine what our residents want for this area.”
