Bond’s Street woman stoned ‘snob’s’ house

A woman who threw stones at a house in the Bond’s Street area causing damage in excess of £1,000, because she believed the resident to be ‘a snob,’ will be sentenced at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court next month.

Rebecca Bishop, who is aged 22, of number 4, Pine Street, Derry admitted causing criminal damage to the house and disorderly behaviour on August 9.

Londonderry Magistrates’ Court heard that officers of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) observed the defendant throwing stones at the house.

The local Magistrates’ Court heard that when the police officers told Bishop to stop she told them to ‘f**k off.’

The resident of the house then reported to the police officer that the glass in her front door had been smashed as a result of Bishop’s actions.

Bishop admitted the charges to police officers and said that she didn’t know the resident of the house.

The defendant also told the police officers that she believed her to be ‘above herself and a snob,’ Londonderry Magistrates’ Court was informed.

Local District Judge Barney McElholm asked for a pre-sentence report on the defendant to prepared in advance of his sentencing.

The twenty-two-year-old woman will return to Londonderry Magistrates’ Court in order to be sentenced by District Judge McElholm next month.

Bishop’s sentencing date has been set for October 9, 2015.
