Best ‘Kids Day Out’ is surfing at Benone

The best coastal experience for children in Northern Ireland is now officially a spot of surfing at Benone.

Just a few years since they opened beside the Benone Tourist Complex, Long Line Surf School has just been awarded “Best Coastal Experience” in Northern Ireland for its Kids Big Day Out Service by Outdoor NI.

Long Line’s owner and Benone resident Dan Lavery explained: “The ‘Kids Big Day Out’ is something we have been doing at Long Line since we started in early 2012 and offer every Friday during the school holidays for kids aged 6-12. We take them from 10am to 5.30pm. The ethos behind the surf school and the Kids Big Days Out is all about encouraging young ones to experience surfing as a lifestyle rather than just a sport.

“By incorporating fun and education through games and exercise on the shores as well as the water the kids get to make the most of this fantastic beach we have at Benone and I believe this is what keeps them coming back for more.”

Long Line Surf School is now entering its third season at Benone. Dan, who put on Northern Ireland’s first ever disabled surfing festival, said that it was a real honour to pick up the award in light of some of the other activities on offer along the coast in Northern Ireland.

“To win the Best Coastal Experience Activity Provider award for our Kids Big Days Out is such a fantastic achievement for me and my team especially when you consider the three other providers that we were up against, who also offer unique and exciting activities along Northern Ireland’s coastline,” Dan said.
