£83k in lotto funding to aid range of projects in Derry and Strabane

Nine groups in Derry and Strabane have been collectively awarded £83,984 in lotto monies in order to develop a range of community projects across the city and district.

Community groups, schools, health charities and early years organisations are among the latests beneficiaries of the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme with a cross-section of society in the North West set to benefit.

The Caw and Nelson Drive Action Group have received £8,484 to develop a community based computer suite and provide access to classes.

Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke will use £9,500 to provide programmes in the North West area for stroke survivors.

The Claudy Parish Community Group, which oversees the running of St Patrick’s Old Church in Claudy as a community facility, has been given £10,000 grant to buy a new PA system and catering equipment.

The Creggan Pre-School and Training Trust Ltd. has been awarded £9,960 grant to run programmes supporting health awareness, skills building, intergenerational work, leisure and hobby activity, positive parenting, and one-off community events.

Foyle College has been given £9,300 to bring mental health and resilience training to pupils, staff and parents.

Health For Life, a newly formed group that provides services for people over 60 in the Bogside, Brandywell, Creggan, Fountain and Bishop Street, will use £10,000 to create a ‘central hub’ to reduce social isolation and health problems among older people in the area.

The Lifestart Foundation, a child development programme for parents of children aged 0-5 years, will use a £10,000 grant to produce a child-centered, month-by-month digital guide for parents on how their child develops and grows from birth up to five years.

The Newbuildings Community and Environmental Association will create an intergenerational gardening club with the £7,140 it’s receiving. And Newpin, which provides parent and child therapeutic programmes in Derry, Strabane and Limavady are using a £9,600 grant to provide child psychotherapy for children and counselling for mothers.
