Thirty-four children are availing of respite services at The Cottages on the Dungiven Road, which cost half-a-million pounds to run in 2013/14, the Health Minister Jim Wells has confirmed.
The Minister recently confirmed that The Cottage, which provides respite provision for adults and children will remain open.
Now he has provided figures for the amount of children who use the facility.
“Thirty-four children are availing of residential respite services in The Cottages, Londonderry, (six bedded unit).
“In 2013/14, the total annual running cost of statutory residential respite services at The Cottages, Londonderry, was £531,935.”
Late last year the DUP MLA Maurice Devenney said the Health Minister had assured him there would be no rush to radically overhaul respite provision at The Cottages.
