£27m IT acquisition a thumbs up for city


SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has congratulated management and staff at Londonderry software firm 8over8 following the news that they have been bought by Cambridge based IT company AVEVA for £26.9 million.

Mr Durkan said: “I am delighted for management and staff at 8over8 following the news of this major acquisition.

“8over8 is a very successful indigenous firm who have shown they are well-placed from Derry to serve the world’s major oil and gas companies with their innovative risk management software and well-planned business model.

“By growing skills and growing sales they have grown success even in difficult economic times.

“8over8 have succeeded because of the aptitude and attitude of its workforce as well as the quality of its management.

“Their success is evidence that Derry is a good place for business and that it can be a great base for growing in the global market.”
