Danielle McCartney from Londonderry has been as honorary secretary of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch (RSPBANI).
Danielle has been involved with Colmcille Pipe Band for the past eight years, ever since meeting the band’s pipe major, Mark Hasson, to whom she is now engaged. Danielle (29), a fluent Irish speaker, says she loves everything about the band and has been chairperson for the last five years. Outside of the band she is a mum to Cahir (5) and is a technical support engineer for Kofax (Lexmark). She completed her first three grades in tenor drumming in the RSPBANI Piping and Drumming School and is hoping to complete the next grade soon.
“I look forward to all of the challenges ahead of me, she said”.
“Playing in the band and attending the drumming school has given me opportunities that I wouldn’t otherwise have had - such as meeting so many amazing people and playing alongside the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland for the past three years.”
