Hollywood's golden couple Doris Day and Gordon MacRae reunite for St Valentine's Day

The Playhouse is transporting the Millennium Forum back to the romantic era of MGM Hollywood on Valentine's weekend with '˜An Evening with Doris Day and Gordon MacRae.'

Starring Alex Sharpe and Karl McGuckin as Hollywood’s golden couple, Doris Day and Gordon MacRae will reunite on stage to tell the story of their lives on Friday, February 12.

Doris Day will be played by star of musical theatre Alex Sharpe, who has toured America as a lead soloist with the Irish Singing Sensation Celtic Women and starred alongside Colm Wilkinson in his famed role as Jean Valijean in les Miserables in the West End.

The role of Gordon MacRae will be performed by beautiful bass baritone voice Karl McGuckin.

Karl’s opera work includes ‘The Mikado’, ‘The Elixer of Love’ and ‘The Rakes Progress’ with Welsh National Opera, ‘La Traviata’ and ‘HMS Pinafore’ with Lyric Opera Ireland, and ‘La Pietra Del Paragone’ with Royal Irish Academy of Music.

He most recently appeared as Josef Locke in The Playhouse production of ‘Josef Locke- A Grand Adventure’ by Felicity McCall.

Kieran Griffiths, will feature all the classics of Hollywood, including ‘By The Light of The Silvery Moon’, ‘When I Fall In Love’, and of course, not forgetting ‘Que Sera Sera’. 
Famous stage couple Doris Day and Gordon MacRae appeared together in five different films. Their on-screen pairing came when movie musicals hit the peak of their popularity in the fifties.
