Canada's leading soprano Measha Brueggergosman to close festival

Leading Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman will close the 8th Walled City Music Festival alongside co-artistic director Cathal Breslin (piano), the organisers have announced.

She will be the final night guest artist for this year’s chamber music festival, which takes place over June 2-5 in The Glassworks.

Measha has emerged as one of the most magnificent performers and vibrant personalities of our time, performing in the world’s greatest halls as both an opera singer and a concert artist, and she even sang the opening of the Olympics in Canada for 3.2 billion viewers worldwide.

She is a Deutsche Grammophon artist, and she has won numerous awards for her performances and recordings, including Grammy and Juno Awards.

She was recently awarded the 2016 Nelson Mandela Legacy Award, celebrating individuals who empower, inspire and positively influence lives around the world.

According to The Telegraph “Everything she sings is radiated by an instinctive musicality, breadth of phrasing and generosity of spirit: here is someone evidently singing for love not money and she has the gift of making the music glow.”

Artistic Director of the Festival and fellow performer, Cathal Breslin, said: “Fellow Artistic Director Sabrina Hu and I are beyond excited to have Measha at the 8th Walled City Music Festival. She is a phenomenal performer and personality, and this will be one of the most memorable concerts we have ever seen in Derry. We have been working on bringing her to Derry for many years, and this is the best closing concert that we could possibly imagine!”
