CITY of Derry coach Mark Nicholl wants his side to build on last weekend’s win over Ballynahinch, when they return to AIL action this Saturday at home to Queens University.

The Judges Road out-fit, who have lost six of their last seven games, will be looking to kick start their All Ireland League campaign.

Nicholl said following the 35-25 win over Ballynahinch, he was happy with the boys ‘never say die’ attitude.

“The performance wasn’t bad, in the first half we were poor defensively and gave away three soft tries. The second half we were good. I just told the players to tighten up defensively and the chances would come.

“The past few matches were we lost the performances haven’t been bad, but I am delighted for the players and hope we can kick start our 2013.”

With Queens coming up Nicholl knows his side will need to be at their best if they harbour any hopes of getting a second win on the bounce.

“Queens University will be a totally different side, they love runs from deep, so if we can tighten up our defence and bring back some players we have a good chance of winning.”

The Waterside men who are now sitting mid-table in the Ulster Bank League Division 2 A still harbour ambitions of a top four finish.

“If players are kept fit we will be there or there abouts at the top come the end of the season,” concluded Nicholl.
