THE 2013 Hughes Insurance Sports Volunteer Awards have been launched, the annual awards aiming to recognise and reward Londonderry’s unsung sporting heroes.

The awards are open to volunteers from all sports and aim to unearth the real sporting heroes throughout Northern Ireland.

The judges are seeking people whose drive, energy and passion keeps sports clubs and societies at the heart of their local community.

The awards will run province-wide, focused through 12 branches of Hughes Insurance and each location will have a winner when voting closes on April 1st, 2013 and the decisions are made by a sporting judging panel.

Last year the Derry Sports Volunteer Award was awarded to the late Jon Clifford who was chosen for his work with Tristar Boys FC

Each Hughes Insurance branch winner will win a trophy, £200 for themselves plus £500 for the team, club or group.

All 12 will then go forward to the Northern Ireland finals and the chance to win the Overall Sports Volunteer of the Year Title including £500, a trophy and an additional £1,000 for their club.
