FOYLE Phantoms show no fear in their first competitive matches took a draw and a win their first league games.

The new western league for junior hockey commenced with a derby match between Foyle and Priorians clubs at St Columbs Park with under 11 mixed teams competing.

This new development brings together kids from varied backgrounds and locations to enjoy the benefits of sporting competition and playing together for the love of the game and sense of belonging in a team.

The team has been developing quietly over the past three years with Foyle Hockey Club at St Columbs Park nurtured by members of the FHC senior squad who believe that learning and enjoying the sport young is the essential component for growing the sport for future senior teams in the club.

The U11’s Foyle Phantoms team had a strong line up and showed maturing skills of possession and recycling the ball especially after they took an early lead through a score by E Price fed skilfully by D Robb. Both teams battled hard and were well balanced in each department showing lots of flare and potential for the future.

The Phantoms best team player was also hard to call as several clearly stood out as contenders, however the selectors opted for Ethan Price from Limavady who enjoys playing for Foyle HC.

More details to view on Facebook.com/Foyle Hockey Club. Kids from age five upwards can come along on Thursday practice nights from 6.30pm in the New Year.

Senior practice follows until 9pm and again all are welcome to play and learn the game.
