Hot on the heels of Tuesday night's Inter Firms 5k in Letterkenny and tonight's local Wilkies Run, the spate of road race action continues tomorrow night, with the Newtoncunningham 5K at 7.30pm and the revamped Albertville Harriers 4 miler in Belfast with the same start time.

The road action rolls on to the Buncrana 5K on Wednesday May 25th and a field of both quality and quantity is set to take the starter’s gun at 7.30pm in the annual Buncrana classic.

Pre entry is possible by sending your name, gender, age on race day, club if any to [email protected] and entries will also be taken on the night from 5.30pm at the race HQ in the Scoil Mhuire premises on St Oran’s road.

Race packs can be collected there from 5.30pm.

The Ulster Secondary Schools Track & Field championships will see a raft of local schools athletes in Antrim tomorrow night and Saturday for a crack at Provincial glory and a possible passport to the All Irelands next month in Tullamore.

Athletes from St Columb’s, St Joseph’s, Thornhill, Lumen Christi, St Cecelia’s, St Mary’s, Foyle and NWRC have qualified from the recent District championships and several are expected to be chasing podium spots this weekend.

Lumen’s Fintan Stewart has qualified in both the Senior 800m and 1,500m and it will be interesting to see if he attempts an Ulster double or settle for an all out 1,500m effort. Good luck to all involved!

Finally a mention of the upcoming SSE Airtricity Walled City Marathon set to bring around 1,500 runners out on the city streets on Sunday, June 5th from 8.30am.

Defending champions, Freddy Sittuk and Pauline Curley will be back again to front the big field. No guarantees, however, as the quality of the challengers is high. Freddy will be going for three in a row but in fellow Kenyans, Eric Koegh and Dan Tanui, second and third in the recent Belfast Marathon, he will have his hands full.

Tullamore lady Pauline Curley will have to contend with 2014 winner Anne Curley from Dublin and a 2hrs 50mins performer in Hannah Oldroyd from Yorkshire. Looks set to be a cracker up front!
