The popular cross-border event always attracts a great crowd and entries have already been flooding in for the event, with registrations expected to exceed last year’s quota of 1,200. The closing date for entries it April 30th.

The Half Marathon is organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council in conjunction with the Lifford-Strabane Athletic Club, and this year is the third event of its kind in the region.

2016 sees the introduction of a new course for the race, with runners gathering at the Melvin Sports Centre before embarking on the cross-border route at 10.30am from the new Pedestrian Bridge, before making its way through the Town Centre and following much of the original route before returning across the new bridge.

For anyone who isn’t quite ready to take on the Half Marathon challenge a 5km run will also be taking place starting at 10.45am.

Speaking ahead of the race, Events Officer with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Liz Cunningham, said: “The Strabane Lifford Half Marathon always draws a great range of runners of all abilities, and the entries have been really picking up in recent weeks.

“I would encourage people to register as soon as possible to secure their place, and to keep in mind that entries will be closing in less than two weeks’ time.
