Another busy week at Roe Park had golfers turning out in droves to make the most of the fine spell of dry weather and rising temperatures.

There were lots to play for with two Club Stablefords, an Open Four Man Scramble and an Open Senior Stableford.

First up was a Club Stableford on Thursday which saw a plethora of members turning out keen to climb up the Golfer of the Year leaderboard.

Who else but winner of the coveted trophy three years running now, Kieran Berryman, to seal victory with an incredible score of 44 points to leave everyone in awe of his talent.

He shot a five under par round of 65 which included 6 birdies and 11 pars, with a bogey being the only blemish on the card.

Now playing of a handicap of two the question is can he maintain this kind of form and win a record fourth title in a row, only time will tell.

Another low handicapper Ricky Cochrane had a fine round indeed, finishing second with 40 points. Bryan Donaghy claimed third place, beating Malcolm Stuart into fourth using the count back rule as both players scored 38 points.

Friday was the turn of the over fifty’s to show what they could do in an Open Stableford sponsored by The Well Bar & Grill, Ballykelly.

Arnie Simpson regained some much welcomed form, after struggling for much of the season, to take the win with an excellent score of 41 points. Joe Connor finished second with 39 points and John Carmichael was third with 38. Gerard Boyd won the front nine with 21 points and Anthony O’Neill played a blinder on the back nine to win it with 20 points.

Andy Cameron won the nearest the pin at the ninth hole with John Lee closest at the twelfth hole.

Saturday saw a 4 Man Open Scramble with some amazing prizes provided by sponsors Altec Solar. Charlie Mearns’ team consisting of sons Nigel and Paul won with the help of the in-form Jamie Cochrane scoring a nett total of 53.4. Willie Scott and his team, consisting of Joe O’Kane, Gary Campbell and Johnathan McAreavey were second with 56.8.

Saturday also saw The Probono society, made up entirely of Roe Park members, hold their annual Captains’ day.

There were some fantastic prizes on offer with winner Martin Butcher taking home a top of the range Powakaddy Electric Trolley.

Up next is the Roe Park Cup Qualifier sponsored by Jack Wilton, played over Thursday and Saturday.

Entries are also still being taken for the annual Scratch Cup held on the 5th July and sponsored by The Depot, Limavady.
