There was a huge turnout for the Lunns Jewellers sponsored two day team event at City of Derry played over Saturday and Sunday with over 50 teams competing for the fabulous prizes on offer.

The runaway winners with two superb rounds of 95 and 96 (191 total) were the team captained by George Curry with Aldwyn Leckey, Andy McFaul and undeniably the star of the show 16-year-old Justin McFaul who on day one playing off 28 had the temerity to eagle the third hole.

On day two he contributed 47 points to his team total. The handicapper was duly notified and his new handicap reflects the quality of his game. A great team effort nonetheless.

Two visitors from Faughan Valley Billy Hutchman and Ian Dunn helped considerably by members Alan Gault and Connor McKnight finished in second place with a highly commendable 184 total (89 and 95).

Last year’s winners Wyn Donnell, George Pearson, Tommy O’Neill and Gary Leckey had 180 points (88 and 92) to take the third prize. Fourth place went to Cecil Thompson, Barry McMenamin, Michael McShane and Richard Burton who had 180 points (92 and 87).

Winners of day one were John O’Kane playing with three visitors from Roe Park, Emmett O’Kane, Kieran Doherty and Michael Mullin with 91 points and day two winners were Alan Montgomery, Aidan Devine, Colm Murphy and Jim McGeady who scored 93 points.

Club Captain John Rosborough spoke at the presentation of prize to thank Lunns Jewellers most kindly for their generous sponsorship and Prehen’s Lady Captain Lucy Smyth presented the prizes.

Lucy’s Captain’s Day takes place this Friday July 24th and Lucy has invited the men of the club to play from 4.30pm over 13 holes for her prizes to the men.

Rainy and blustery weather greeted the smaller than usual field that turned out to play in the weekly Thursday Open at Prehen and it took a triple break of tie to sort out the winning trio.

Best of them was young Lee McClelland (6), his 22 back nine from his 39 points overall total giving him victory.

Iain Anthony (5) had 21 points on his back nine and Aubrey Taylor had 20 points to leave them second and third respectively. Iain’s score was also the best gross.

The Weekly Thursday Open’s run right through to October. Meal deals are on every Wednesday and early bird offers every Friday. 02871311496 for further details or to reserve Tee Times.
