Roe Park had slightly drier weather of late this week which had members and visitors alike turning out in their masses for their golfing fix.
In what has been a dismal summer thus far, weather wise, it was a welcome sight to see almost two dry days together for once.
The timing could not have been better as there was a Fourball BetterBall competition played over two days with fantastic prizes provided by sponsor, O’Kane’s Service Station.
Derek Nicholl and playing partner Alan Rankin would have started firm favourites in any paired event let alone this one.
It proved to be just another stroll in the park for these two as they dominated proceedings, winning with a superb total of 47 points.
Canny golfers for sure they kept it simple giving themselves chances for birdies at almost every hole and keeping the dreaded bogeys of the card.
Alan Dallas and Eamon Barkley is another fine pairing and their excellent score of 44 points was ultimately enough for second place.
Indeed they only just beat third placed pairing Stevie Hamill and Club President James McGuinness who had the same score, on countback.
Kieran Berryman now proudly sits 43 points clear at the top of Golfer of the Year leaderboard over second place man Andy Young.
Kieran has simply been unstoppable so far this season and has already amassed a staggering 108 points.
Last years’ runner-up Young has it all to do to catch him but with only three weeks remaining it will take nothing short of a miracle to stop Berryman being crowned champion for the fourth year running.
The likes of Ricky Cochrane and son Jamie will also be hoping for a strong finish as they bid to overtake Andy into second spot.
Up next is the Monthly Medal this Saturday with fantastic prizes on offer as always courtesy of season sponsor S J Mitchell and Co. The Mixed Open Greensomes sponsored by McAtamney’s Butchers is down for decision on Sunday.
