Paul Monaghan (21) and Malachy Armstrong (26) both scored 43 points in Sunday’s Open Stableford at City of Derry but when the cards were checked Paul’s superb back nine of 25 points gave him the title on a count back with Malachy having to settle for second place.
Both players had one blank each and the handicapper will surely take note.
Barry McCallion (19) finished in third place with 41 points on a tie break and the handicapper will also be very interested in his performance.
Best of the low men was Lester Moore (1) with 35 points and Melody Leonard (35) was the outstanding lady on 36 points.
Members are reminded of the Lady Captain’s (Lucy Smyth) scramble taking place this Friday July 10, at 5.30pm.

While Gary Leckey (11) had an excellent 44 points to take first place in the Kelly Fuels sponsored Open at Prehen on Saturday.
Three birdies set him up for his first win of the season and a possible return to single figure status.
