Golf: Ming wins after break of tie finish at Foyle Golf Club

The Gary Breslin Memorial Open Stableford held at Foyle on Saturday attracted a large entry with the 140 competitors enjoying favorable conditions on a course in pristine condition making for good scoring.

With a 42 points break of tie deciding the winner in favor of Damien Ming (14) and Foyle Golf Club’s Hon. Treasurer Jackie Thomas (17) taking the runners up spot.

Third and fourth places were also decided after a 41 points break of tie in favor of Gary Jackson (11) and Conor McCarron (17) respectively.

The Gross winner was Cormac McGeady after he scored 36 points and Ballyliffin’s Pascal Harper (26) with 40 points claimed the visitor’s prize.

Martin Campbell (11) with 22 points won the front nine and Kevin Henderson (25) with 25 points secured the back nine. Darren Deane (22) with 38 points won the Non GUI prize and the longest drive was hit by Andy McKeever.

The ladies accolade was won by Anne Hamilton (13) after she scored 34 points and Faye McGrotty (18) with 31 points finished in second spot.

The front nine in the ladies section went to Alison Wright (25) after she finished with 18 points and Agnes McLaughlin (16) with 17 points was best on the back nine.

Nearest the pin at the eighth hole was Anne Hamilton and Denis Callan hit the longest drive.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) sees the Club stableford competition down for decision and on Thursday the Over 50’S competition takes centre stage.

the Desmond Motors Open competition will take place on Friday and Saturday see’s a charity open be staged and the Club Sweep will be played for on Sunday.
