Roe Park Resort saw an influx of golfers last week thanks to the continuing warm weather and the many competitions held with fantastic prizes on offer.

Thursdays’ Club Stableford in turn saw a massive turnout as members were keen to get some valuable points for Golfer of the Year.

Johnny Forsythe has kept plugging away this year knowing a big score was in him somewhere having had a poor season thus far by his standards.

All that changed on Thursday though as he emphatically won with a simply superb score of 43 points.

He laid the foundations with a solid front nine score of 19 points before moving up a gear to score a fantastic 24 points on the back nine to clinch the win.

Danny Quinn also had a great start to his round with 23 points on the front nine but couldn’t quite match it with 20 points on the back nine giving him a total of 43 and the runner up spot on count back.

Ex-Limavady United winger Ryan McIlmoyle scored a solid 39 points for third place and the ever improving Nigel Mearns shot a one over round 71 to give him the gross prize with 37 points.

Nigel has certainly shown his intentions to challenge for the Golfer of the Year title and he will have to keep this excellent form going if he is to stop Kieran Berryman from winning a fifth straight title.

The club had its annual fundraiser on Saturday with fantastic prizes up for grabs as always. Peter Mullan was the best on the day as he scored an excellent 40 points to take the victory.

John McKay was second with 38 points and David Martin was third with 37 points. Best gross went to Nigel Mearns who shot a four over round 74 for 36 points.

Dr Gerry Byrne continued his good form of late as he won the best front nine with 20 points and Gary Moore won the back nine with 22 points.

Longest drive at the 7th hole went to Lee McIlroy and Sean Hasson had the longest drive at the 18th hole. Nearest the pin prizes went to Shea Hogg, Nigel Mearns and Kieran Doherty.

This week sees a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford on Saturday with fantastic prizes being provided by sponsors The Market Yard.

There will also be the usual club competitions starting on Thursday and Sunday and the hugely popular ‘Ladies Get into Golf’ series of coaching classes run by resident PGA Professional Michael McCrudden enters its third week.
