Runners, joggers and fun runners across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area are being encouraged to sign up for two forthcoming Half Marathon events that will be taking place in the Council area.

Speaking at the official launch of the Strabane-Lifford and Waterside Half Marathons, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Elisha McCallion, said she was confident both events would be widely supported considering the current interest in running across the Council area.

First up is the Strabane–Lifford Half Marathon which takes place on May 15th.

It will depart from the Railway Road in Strabane at 10.30am.

The Lifford Athletic Club organised race includes a 5k Fun Run and a walk for all ages and abilities and has proven a popular cross border event and is supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council.

For those thinking further ahead, there is still time to get into training to be part of the Waterside Half Marathon which is scheduled for Sunday, September 4th.

Departing from the Gransha Grounds at 10am, the event includes a Half Marathon for runners and wheelchair athletes, as well as a three person relay and a 2k family fun run.

Mayor McCallion described both half marathons as fantastic local sporting events that attract runners and athletes from all over the Council area and wider afield.

“Registration for both events is now open so make sure to get involved here,” she said.
