GOLF: Faughan Valley start their defence later this month

The 2016 North West Inter Club League is getting underway for its third year with 2015 League winners Faughan Valley getting the defense of their title underway against Greeencastle and with the eight clubs involved looking to win the coveted title it looks like being a close contest in the qualification rounds in both sections.

Section 1 - Faughan Valley, Redcastle, Buncrana and Greencastle.

Round 1 Matches - Faughan Valley v Greencastle; Buncrana v Redcastle to be completed by 19th June.

Round 2 Matches - Redcastle v Faughan Valley; Greencastle v Buncrana to be completed by 24th July.

Round 3 Matches - Greencastle v Redcastle; Faughan Valley v Buncrana to be completed by 21st August.

Section 2 - North West, Foyle, Roe Park and Ballyliffin.

Round 1 Matches - Roe Park v Ballyliffin; North West v Foyle to be completed by 19th June.

Round 2 Matches - Ballyliffin v North West; Foyle v Roe Park to be completed by 24th July.

Round 3 Matches - Ballyliffin v Foyle; North West v Roe Park to be completed by 21st August.

While The Danske Bank sponsored Open Stableford played at Foyle on Saturday, attracted a very good entry with the competitors enjoying a glorious day.

Stevie Moore (15) returning to the winners rostrum with a fine score of 41 points, with the inform John Lafferty (15) claiming the runners up accolade a further point adrift, Niall McGuinness (6) finished in third place on 39 points.

The Gross winner after a break of tie finish was Stephen Martin after he scored 37 points.

Chris Lynch (7) with 20 points claimed the back nine after a BOT finish and Monica Smith (21) with 38 points was the Ladies winner.

The Friday Open went to Martin Kivelehan (6) after he scored 44 points.

Sean Meenan (17) with 41 points was second after a break of tie finish and Dane McCafferty (17) with 41 points was third.

The Sunday competition saw Conor McNally, Cormac Cassidy and Gareth McCourt were all winners.

The Confined Over 50’s went to John J Logue (16) after he scored 44 points and Charlie Haslett (18) with 40 points was runner up.

Foyle Golf Centre/Club are running an introduction to golf summer camp for Boys and Girls 8-16 years of age with parent participation very welcome throughout the summer months he got underway last night and will continue every Tuesday night thereafter until the end of August. Competitions get underway today (Wednesday) with the Summer Trophy sponsored by Bailey Waste, the Friday Open and the Total Golf 2 Day Open takes place on Saturday and Sunday.
