Details have just been released, inviting teams to enter the 2016 Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup which will take place in the North West from July 18th to July 23rd next year.

An invitation is extended to all clubs competing in youth football, North or South to compete in this event with no fewer than 10 male competitions and three female competitions to enter and clubs are encouraged to get their entries in as early as possible.

The format and structure of the Foyle Cup tournament is one which gives every participant the chance to play as much football as possible as well as experience all that Derry City has to offer.

Teams compete across a variety of age groups – 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19 with three Ladies events as well at 11, 13 and 14 plus. Entry fee is a modest £150 per team entry.

Whilst there are many age categories to enter, the Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup is about more than the football.

For tournament organiser, Michael Hutton, the 2016 tournament will be without doubt the best ever.

“How do you judge success? Is it judged on the number of entries? We had 278 teams competing this year and probably even more next year,” he said.

“Is it judged on the quality of entry or how far teams travel?

“We attract a high quality of entry with teams from Premier league in Scotland and England competing annually and teams travelling from as far away as Canada and America.

“Is success gauged on the quality of pitches? Then for sure the Foyle Cup ranks as one of the best for the compliments received annually highlight that fact.

“Is success based on the number of spectators? Well if so, 2016 will be our biggest and best yet.

“Over the last four years the number of teams entries has more than doubled such is the interest in this well organised soccer event.

“The success of the tournament has to be judged on the experience of the teams and visitors to the city for the week long event and their desire to return in future years and I can assure all concerned, that the Foyle Cup 2016 will witness a huge influx of teams which have competed in the event in previous years, happy to join us in a festival of football.

“Interest already has been immense and as always we welcome new entries.

“Indeed over the past 10 days I had been busy responding to entry requests from teams which have not yet competed in the Foyle Cup tournament.”

Over the years the event has been supported by Derry & Strabane District Council, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Dept for Social Development. OFMDFM and Tourism NI. For more details visit the tournament website www.foylecup.com or telephone 02871359734.
