O’Flynn staying put at Stute

Former Derry City striker Stephen O’Flynn has turned down an offer from Premiership rivals Coleraine in order to remain apart of Paul Kee’s team for another season.

Having trained with Coleraine over the preseason period, many had given up hope on the journeyman staying with the Riverside outlet – however, after weighing up his options, the Cork native has decided that his best bet is to stay with Stute for at least another year.

It is expected that the talisman – who bagged 13 goals for the ‘Babyblues’ in the Championship last season – will re-sign at some point this week.

And manager Paul Kee is sure to be delighted that any prospect of a forward crisis has been removed from thought by this sudden turn of events.

Speaking to us after captaining Stute in their 1-0 over Limavady on Saturday, O’Flynn had the following to say:

“Glad to be involved with the team again, I took long enough to get myself sorted out, but I’m back training now and I got to play sixty minutes today which is good.”

“I had the option to join Coleraine, so I spoke with my girlfriend, and weighed up my options to see what would be best for me, and I’ve decided that it’s in my best interest to stay.”

“I enjoyed playing for the club last year, and had a good season of form myself last year, and I want to continue that into the Premier League this season.”

“I still haven’t signed yet, I’m waiting to hear word from the manager, but hopefully we can get together and get it all confirmed soon so that our concentrations can turn purely to playing good football.”
