Queens themselves ended last season mid table in seventh although they were fully 23 points behind the Roesiders at the end of campaign.

From their 26 league games they won ten, drew six and lost the other ten encounters they had.

In those games they scored thirty-five times but conceded thirty-seven at the other end of the pitch.

The teams met twice last year with one drawn and United winning the other game late in the season.

They drew one all at the Showgrounds with Paul Owens scoring that day, the game at the Dub ended in a 2-0 win for Limavady with Owens again scoring along with Hugh Carlin.

At this stage of a new season it can be hard to tell what sort of side Queens will have, however they are sure to pose a threat.

Going into this fixture, Roesiders boss Paul Owens is happy to have a cup game rather than a league game first up.

“To be honest I’m sort of glad we have the league cup first because it gives us a chance to get settled in,” he admitted.

“We have Bryan (McClelland) suspended so I’m happy to get that suspension out of the way before the league starts.

“We aren’t going to win the League Cup, I’m not silly enough to think that, but it’ll be nice if we can win then get one of the big boys like last year.

“Having the cup game takes away the first day pressure a bit so I’m happy as I said to do it this way.”

Although his team may be missing a few players this weekend, Owens feels he has enough to get the right result.

“We have a few players missing for various reasons for these games with injuries and suspensions.

“That’s another reason why I’m happy that we have the cup game before we start the league campaign.

“However even with the players that we have missing I’m confident that we have more than enough to win the game.

“Come Saturday we will be ready for the game and looking forward to getting our name in the hat for the next round,” he concluded.

Going into the game Owens may give competitive debuts to Graham Crown, John Watt, Robbie Hume and Paul Smith but McClelland misses out through suspension, while Luke Bradley, Conor Harkin and Gary McFadden are also out through injury.
