FOOTBALL: Man City coach linking up with Maiden City Soccer

McGladdery will be visiting the likes of Ballykelly PS and Lisneal College tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday, to host and deliver coaching sessions to the participants in attendance.

In his coaching workshops, the Manchester City development coach will be presenting and delivering the UEFA backed ‘Matrix Coaching System’ which is the main core of his work at Man City.

City use this matrix system as a talent identification tool as it shows the thinking players and the players that have a basic understanding of movement skills.

Maiden City have always worked with a holistic player development programme and believe that this Matrix system can only enhance their player development plans.

Meanwhile Derry Colts U15s produced an excellent display to defeat high flying Portadown at the Vale Centre on Friday and the result may go a long way to securing their place in the top flight of the NIBFA next season.

Colts went into the match on the back of two defeats in six days against Coleraine (0-1) and Ridgeway (2-1) when last minute goals in both games denied Colts valuable points. However, the boys were determined to put those defeats behind them and early pressure paid off after five minutes on Friday as Joe Callaghan fired home a wonderful strike into the roof of the net.

Colts started the second half in a similar vein and five minutes in Callaghan once again delivered with a snapshot from inside the box into the corner of the net.

It came as no surprise when Sean Duffy added a third following a corner kick to seal the points. Portadown were denied a consolation goal in the dying minutes when McCann produced a wonderful save pushing a rasping shot around the post.
