Jarvis aims for Premiership

DEFENDER Dean Jarvis is going to use his York City experience as inspiration to help Institute gain promotion to the Premiership.
The talented left-back was all set to join the League Two side but he suffered heartache at the last minute when manager Gary Mills decided not to sign him after he watched him in a practice match against a very experienced Blackburn Rovers side.
“Now that the transfer window is shut closed, I’m just going to concentrate with ’Stute and hopefully we can get promotion,” stated Jarvis.
“If nothing does happen at the end of the season then hopefully we’ll be playing in the Premiership next season, but yeah if the team are doing well and I’m doing well then hopefully something better will happen for me.
“I’m just going to have to keep working harder, improve my game and see what happens in the future.”
In the Rovers side was Portuguese striker Nuno Gomes, Simon Vukčević and Scottish international David Goodwillie, incidentally Jarvis marked the Montenegro’s most capped international in the first half and he felt he did fine.
“It’s just one of those things,” stated the former Aberdeen starlet.
“It was a tough game, but you still had to go out and try to enjoy yourself, you couldn’t really shy away just because they had big names playing for them.
“I’ll put it down to an experience and I just have to now push on from it now.”
“I went over and played in a tough match against a more or less a good Blackburn first team, while it was only a reserve York team.
“We played all right in the first half and did well to keep the match 0-0 at half-time, then in the second half their class kind of ran over us.
“Unfortunately we didn’t get that much of the ball, I think possession was something like 70 per cent to 30 per cent, so we didn’t get enough time on the ball to really show what I can do.”
Now that the deal is dead after falling through 48 hours before the recent transfer window closed, the 20-year-old just wants to get his head down and hope to continue his good form with the Drumahoe club and he believes his preparation for the practice match was fine, despite having to fly over early that morning.
“It might have helped if I maybe had went over the day before, but at the end of the day you just have to go out and play a match, so it doesn’t really matter; I got a good nights sleep so it didn’t matter that I had to get up early.
“It was unfortunate that the deal fell through but if I keep doing what I’m doing, as I know that there are a few other clubs interested, so I’m just going to keep playing well for ’Stute and hopefully something will happen at the end of the season.”
