Unfortunately their Achilles heel came back to haunt them as they failed to take their chances and conceded two poor goals, which resulted in the defeat at the Oval.

Despite the defeat Kee wants his players to build on the performance.

“The boys are in the changing room very disappointed because we lost the match and I can’t ask for anything more from the players,” he stated.

“I thought they gave it their very best and we became a wee bit unstuck on certain times in the game.

“I can’t fault the players for their effort and commitment and I felt in terms of our general play we were the better team over the 90 minutes.

“We should have managed the game better but that’s all part of their learning curve but because of the defeat it’s back to the drawing board this week at training.”

The Drumahoe man was gutted by the goals they conceded to Jay Magee and Steven Gordon, but he did feel if Robbie Hume had taken his great chance in the final quarter the game may have turned out different.

“We gave two sloppy goals away, the first one we didn’t deal with the corner and the build-up to the corner as well was after some poor defending.

“Their player (Magee) beat Mark Scoltock to the header, so if he beats him to the header he beats him to the header, yes it’s disappointing because you would think Scoltock would win 90 per cent of his headers, he didn’t in that occasion.

“The second goal came when Stephen O’Donnell gave them the ball from a throw in and you can’t keep making mistakes like that and that’s disappointing, but overall our play was good, we counter attacked well and had a bit of pace up front.

“We had chances if Robbie (Hume) had scored that one when he was one on one with around 25 minutes to go its 1-1 and it’s a different game with us in ascendency.

“But as I said the performance was good and now it’s all about learning. In fairness the learning was good this week because they have taken in a lot of stuff which was said to them last week at training and they went about their jobs properly at the Oval.

“On Thursday we lost (Stephen) O’Flynn it could have affected the team, but it didn’t, then on Saturday morning we lost (Aaron) Walsh and (Dwayne) McManus and that too didn’t affect the team.”
