Tomorrow will see a friendly with a difference at Institute FC’s Riverside Stadium as St. Columb’s College welcome Under 17 South African club, Sports Academy George Tigers, to Derry City.

The South African visitors, part of the Sports Academy George charity based in George, South Africa, are taking part in what a spokesperson described as “a trip of a lifetime to Northern Ireland”. The Academy uses sport as a tool to coach, mentor and raise positive leaders in the under-privileged Townships in the area.

‘Sports Academy’ has strong Northern Irish roots as Wayne and Suzi McAfee, formerly from Castlerock, launched the charity in 2008.

They have been living in George now for eight years running the programme which has seen over 100 young people mentored through high school.

Friday’s games starts at 1pm and if you would like to attend any of the matches or fundraisers, please check out the charity Facebook page www.facebook.com/sportsacademygeorge or website at www.sportsacademygeorge.com.
