Deery conceded that his side struggled to deal with a host of well delivered set-pieces but a few changes at the break sorted things out.

“Credit, where credit’s due their crosses were on the money all the time and they put it in on top of us, but we didn’t really go and attack it as I had hoped, but I spoke to the boys at half-time and to be fair in the second half we were fairly comfortable,” he said.

“Marty (Gallagher) had to make a big save at 2-1, but outside of that they didn’t threaten us that much after the break.

“Set-pieces in the first half we looked vulnerable and we conceded from one, but we have to learn from that. In fact the Ballinmallard manager (Whitey Anderson) was at the game and I’m sure he’ll be saying to himself that ‘Stute can’t defend from set-pieces’, so it’s up to my boys to answer that and stand up to it.”

Striker Gareth Brown made it seven goals in his last eight games much to Deery’s delight.
“Gareth’s second goal, what a strike that was,” he added.

“Jamie McIntyre, who caused them a lot of problems all night, was trying to cut inside but the ball broke to Gareth and it was one of the sweetest strikes you’ll see and it was worthy of winning any cup final.

“Look Gareth is a tricky wee character, but he’s a winner, he gives everything to the cause and that’s why I signed him. Night’s like Monday at Windsor Park he can remember them; it’s great for him because he’s a passionate young man and I’m delighted he managed to get two goals.”
