The Stute gaffer thought his team didn’t play to their full potential and because of that they left Mill Meadow pointless.

Deery was happy with his players display in the first half, but he felt they just didn’t get going after the break.

“I felt we were the better team in the first half and scored a good goal, but we conceded right before half-time and that probably gave them a wee lift,” he said.

“But overall we were competitive, we worked hard but as we know it was a tough game.

“It’s always going to be a tough game no matter what way you look at it, but it’s disappointing we never got a draw out of it, because I felt it would have been a fair result for both teams.

“But look they’ll look at it as a massive result for them but we have to pick ourselves up.

“It wasn’t the worse performance; it was hard fought and our quality wasn’t probably at where it usually is at, but we’ll come good.”

Deery was the first man to admit that the goals they conceded simply wasn’t good enough from a defensive point of view.

“Both goals we conceded were poor,” he added.

“It was too easy for them to get in down the right hand side for the first one.

“It literally was too easy how they got in and the guy just squared in the ball and it was a simple finish right before half-time.

“To be honest the second goal was disastrous.

“I just thought we looked a wee bit ropey at times whenever they were hitting long passes or long clearances we looked a bit fatigued going for clearances and that’s how the second goal came about.

“Darryl’s (McDermott) took a swipe missed the ball and Dean’s (Curry) controlled it and the man has come in on his blind side took it off him and placed it into the net.

“But you can’t concede goals like that especially when we are trying to strive to compete and challenge this season, so we are disappointed with the goals we conceded.

“But the players know themselves, they know we have a lot of work to do and we have to get a wee bit sharper.

“We need to get our mind sharper and our fitness sharper.”

Stute should have a had a penalty in the first half after Stephen O’Donnell was taken out inside the box by Liam McKenna, but referee Keith Kennedy awarded nothing.

Despite the strong penalty appeals being turned down, Deery felt his side couldn’t blame the referee’s performance for their disappointing result.

“Look we can’t get caught up with referee’s decisions,” he said.

“It was a penalty we all clearly seen it and that could have been us 2-0 up in the game and it would have been hard for them to pick themselves up.

“But referee’s don’t give decisions at times but you have to get on with it.

“We aren’t saying that’s the reason why we didn’t win the game, if we clear our lines then that second goal doesn’t happen and that’s the disappointing thing.

“We would be coming down the road with a point and we would have been pleased with that.
