INSTITUTE: Curry brothers and striker join

Deery has re-signed virtually all of the 2015-16 squad and has added former Stute men Dean and Stephen Curry along with striker Sean McCarron.

At the minute Deery is on holidays with his family but his assistant Paddy McLaughlin and chairman Bill Anderson will be ready pen in hand for any signings.

“I have signed three players by bringing back Stephen and Dean to the club and added Sean McCarron,” he said.

“Obviously we have quite a few of the boys who played this season on forms and we are working on a few others we are still looking to see if they are going to commit.

“They are probably weighing up their options after the disappointment of the play-off, which is understandable but speaking and being close with all the players, they are going to keep me well informed if anything happens.

“Now I’m on my break but those players who are still undecided will be in good hands with Paddy and Bill and they’ll look after whatever needs done.”

The 30-year-old believes while the likes of Gareth Brown, Jamie Dunne and Jamie McIntyre to name but three of his squad, have all the attributes to play at a higher level, he feels another season in senior football would benefit them, rather than sitting on the bench with a Premiership side.

“I’m being honest when I say this, if they go they aren’t going to be regulars,” he added. “I’m not saying that out of being disrespectful to any of them, I feel if they go to the Premiership, they’ll be going to a side who will have squad rotation, where they might be needed.

“At a young age, which they are, it’s hard to be a first team regular and I think they are still at the right club for progressing.

“Obviously Shane (McGinty) is a different story. He’s been about, but we don’t know his situation, but I don’t think he’s in too much of a rush to get away from us.

“He enjoyed his football this year but we’ll wait and see. As I said we have a good few on forms and to be honest it’s only two or three players who haven’t re-signed, but hopefully we can hang onto them.”

The Stute gaffer, who confirmed that Robbie Hume and Michael Lynch have both left, also conceded that if a better offer from a ‘bigger club’ comes for one of his players then he won’t stand in their way.

“The form which they have signed is an amateur form and we’ll sit down if something is too good to turn down for them,” he said.

“We’ll not shaft any player. It isn’t in our mindset to do that.”

Deery also wants his players to use their last minute heartache at Ballinamallard United as inspiration for the 2016/17 season.

“I feel the year under their belts will help everyone and we have to let that disappointment fuel everything.

“We won’t be overrating about it, but just have a determination that you don’t want to get into the play-off, you want to try and claim the title.

“Warrenpoint have come down and they’ll be looking to go straight back up, while Larne have recruited well, so we know it’s going to be tough.

“Plus there’s a bit more expectation on us this season, especially after the finish we had.”
